Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 33 year old mechanic at Randolph in Bibb County, AL. He enlisted in Bibb County on 24 April 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in the foot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a CS hospital in Richmond, VA on 4 October and furloughed home on 9 October. He was home into April 1863 then detailed to the Alabama Hospital in Richmond, VA from 9 May 1863 to about February 1864. He was wounded again, at Darbytown Road near Richmond, VA on 7 October 1864 and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1880 he was a farmer at Randolph, AL.

He's also on a Sharpsburg casualty list in the Richmond (VA) Enquirer of 17 October 1862. Personal details from family genealogists and the US Census of 1860 & 1880. His gravesite is on Findagrave, as the Reverend B. H. Mize.

He married Nancy E Pool (1840-c.1866) in January 1859 and they had 4 children. He married again, the widow Esther Ann Ingram Connor (1835-1874) in August 1866 and they had 3 more; she had as many as 5 children previously. He married, thirdly, another widow, Mary Ann Wright Walker (1835-1918), who had borne 6 children of her own, in February 1877; their son William died at two months.
