Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an unmarried 24 (28) year old physician in Randolph, Bibb County, AL. He enrolled there on 11 April 1862 and was elected First Lieutenant of Company H, 44th Alabama Infantry on 8 May.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Captain on 1 November 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA and was wounded again, by a gunshot through his right leg which broke his fibula, on 6 May 1864 in the Wilderness, VA. He was in hospitals and on disability furlough to at least the end of November. He was retired to the Invalid Corps at Selma, AL on 22 February 1865 and assigned to his "County of Post" (probably Bibb) on 1 March.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a physician in Baker (renamed Chilton in 1874) County, AL. He was listed as a landlord there in 1900.
