Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a married 37 year old mechanic at Centreville in Bibb County, AL. Giving his age as 34, he enlisted at Six Mile, AL on 11 April 1862 and mustered as 2nd Corporal of Company H, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the arm, a bone broken in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA and was sent home on furlough on 1 October 1862, but he never returned to his company.
