Before Sharpsburg

He was a married 29 year old farmer at Scottsville, AL when he enlisted there on 15 April 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 44th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and was furloughed home for 60 days on 28 July. He was later listed as absent without leave and did not return. He was paroled as a "straggler" at Selma, AL in June 1865.
