Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 20 year old farmer on his parents' modest place at Gibson in Glascock County, GA. He enlisted there on 4 March 1862 as 5th Sergeant of Company A, 48th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his right arm or elbow in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 19 December 1863 at Rapidan Station, VA.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer in Gibson, GA. In 1900 he was a day laborer in Mitchell, GA, but was again farming there by 1910.
