Age 29, from Richmond County, he enlisted at Augusta, GA on 7 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company C, 48th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the hand in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and was briefly held at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, then at Fort Delaware. He was admitted to the post hospital at Point Lookout, MD on 8 December, paroled there in January 1864, transferred for exchange on 17 March, and was home on furlough by April. He was admitted to the Stuart Hospital in Richmond, VA with a gunshot wound on 7 June 1864 and furloughed home for 35 days on 17 June. He was with his company to at least December 1864, the last record in his military file.

His service from Henderson,1 who says he was killed at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 (probably confusing Thomas J Warren, Co. H, 14th Georgia Infantry), and from his Compiled Service Records,2 online from fold3. He's also on a Sharpsburg casualty list in the Richmond (VA) Enquirer of 17 October 1862.
