Before Sharpsburg
Age 25, he enlisted at Louisville in Jefferson County, GA on 4 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 48th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was slightly wounded by a gunshot to his neck in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to the hospital at Camp Winder in Richmond, VA on 27 September and sent back to his company on 8 or 9 October 1862. He was in a hospital in Charlottesville, VA with the mumps in December 1862. He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863, elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 5 September, and First Lieutenant on 30 November 1863. He was wounded for the third time, by a gunshot to his right forearm at Petersburg, VA on 22 June 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
After the War
By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer at Bethany in Jefferson County, GA. In 1900 he was a landlord in Washington County, GA.
