He enlisted on 2 (or 20) July 1862 at Columbia, SC, and mustered as a Private in Company I of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded on the campaign and captured near Harpers Ferry, VA, dates not given.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Sandy Hook, MD on 22 September, was a prisoner at Knoxville, MD to at least 20 October, and was sent to Fort McHenry in Baltimore for later exchange. He was in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 10 November and was back with his company by February 1863. He was in a Richmond hospital with nephritis (kidney disease) June to September 1864 followed by a 30 day sick furlough home to Walhalla, SC. He was surrendered and paroled at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865.
