Before Sharpsburg

Son of a prosperous shoemaker, in 1860 he was a 23 year old living with his parents and 4 siblings in Camden in the Kershaw District, SC. He enlisted there on 24 April 1861 and mustered as 3rd Sergeant of Company E of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry. He was First Sergeant by September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and died of wounds on 20 September 1862, place not given.
