Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 22 year old living with his widowed mother and 2 siblings on their farm at Gum Swamp in the Marion District, SC. He was conscripted and enlisted at Marion Court House, SC on 1 July 1862, and mustered as a Private in Company D of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 2 November and furloughed home for 60 days on 22 November 1862. He died on 11 April 1863, place not given, but probably in the Marion District, SC.
