He was conscripted and enlisted at Columbia, SC on 1 July 1862, and mustered as a Private in Company D of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was furloughed from a Richmond, VA hospital on 8 November and returned to duty about February 1863 and was surrendered and paroled with his company at Greensboro, NC on 2 May 1865.
