In 1860 he was a 28 year old farmer at Hickory Head in the Lancaster District, SC. He enlisted at Lancaster Court House, SC on 28 April 1861 and mustered on 22 May as a Private in Company H of the 2nd South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His widow Rebecca filed for his final pay in February 1865.
