Before Sharpsburg

Age 19, a farmer, he was conscripted, enlisted in Columbia, SC on 10 July 1861, and mustered as a Private in Company G, 2nd South Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 26 September and furloughed to Greenville, SC on 2 October. He was back with his Company by the end of 1862. He was left behind, sick, and captured at Gettysburg, PA on 4 July 1863. He was paroled at Baltimore, MD on 16 August and sent to Point Lookout, MD. He was exchanged on 25 December, furloughed home to Flat Rock in the Kershaw District, SC, and returned to duty in February 1864. There is no later military record.
