An 18 year old plasterer, he enlisted at Philadelphia on 17 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 6th United States Cavalry. He was promoted to Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in a skirmish at Barnesville, MD (near Sugar Loaf Mountain) on 10 September 1862 and died later that day.
