Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an unmarried 21 year old farmer living with 3 younger siblings in Wedowee, Randolph County, AL. He enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 26 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company K, 13th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He transferred to Company F of the Phillips (GA) Legion Cavalry on 15 March 1863 and was detailed as a teamster later in 1863. He was sent to Georgia to buy a horse in March or April 1864 and again detailed away to "procure a fresh horse" on 21 September 1864, with no later military record.
