Before Sharpsburg

A married 26 year old farmer at Lineville on the border between Talladega and Randolph Counties, AL, he enlisted at Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action on South Mountain on 14 September and was seriously wounded by a gunshot at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 and captured there.

The rest of the War

By the end of 1863, then in a hospital in Staunton, VA, he was reported as "improving." He was discharged for "permanent disability" on 17 March 1864 at Orange Court House, VA.
