Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 15 year old farm laborer living with his parents, 5 siblings, and 3 slaves on their place in Walker County, AL. He enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered a Private in Company B, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was wounded at Seven Pines, VA on 30 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action on South Mountain on 14 September but not at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, later listed as absent without leave there.

The rest of the War

He was listed as a deserter at Harrisonburg, VA on 11 March 1863, then with his company until again listed AWOL at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He returned later that month and fought with his regiment through Mine Run, VA on 27 November 1863. He was issued clothing in March 1864 with no later military record.

After the War

By 1880 he was a farmer in Walker County and in 1900 was a gunsmith in Jasper, AL. He was a farm worker there in 1910.
