Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 37 year old farmer at Rockdale in Randolph County, AL. He enlisted in Eastville, AL on 9 August 1861 and mustered a Private in Company E, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and held at Fort Delaware. He was admitted to the post hospital there on 20 December with scurvy and died there on 13 January 1864.

After the War

His father-in-law Wilson Falkner (1810-1872), then guardian of his children, filed for his final pay on 20 March 1865. At least 4 of the Bean children were still with their Falkner grandparents in 1870.
