Before Sharpsburg

He enrolled in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and was appointed and mustered as 2nd Lieutenant of Company C, 13th Alabama Infantry on 19 July. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 20 May (or 1 June) 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was listed as present in every engagement of the regiment for the rest of the war. He was promoted to Captain on 11 November (to date from 2 July) 1864 and was surrendered and paroled with his company at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

In 1870 he was a blacksmith living on Robert Hill's farm at Nixburg in Coosa County, AL but by 1880 was a farmer in Coosa County. In 1900 he was farming at Childersburg in Talladega County, AL and he'd retired there by 1910.

He married Mary Ann Rouse (1833-1908) in December 1874 and they had a son Carl (1875-1942). He married again, Annie Laura Pearson Wood (1866-1909) in April 1909; she died 3 months later.
