Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 14 year old living with his parents, 6 siblings, and 4 slaves on their farm at Prairie Bluff in Wilcox County, AL. He enlisted in Camden, AL on 6 July 1861, then a 15 year old student, and mustered as a Private in Company A, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted to 4th Corporal on 7 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 1 April 1863. He was admitted to the CS General Hospital in Petersburg, VA with pneumonia on 20 June 1864 and died there on 30 June 1864.
