An unmarried 23 year old farmer from Cussetta in Chambers County, AL, he enlisted at Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
