An unmarried 19 year old farmer from Greenville, AL, he enlisted at Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as First Corporal of Company G, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Sergeant on 1 December 1862 but was killed at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863.
