Before Sharpsburg
An unmarried 18 year old farmer from Wetumpka in Elmore County, AL, he enlisted at Montgomery, AL on 13 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company F, 13th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was ill and not with them at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and admitted to Chimborazo Hospital #4 in Richmond, VA for "concussion r[ight] arm, shell" on 18 July 1863. He was transferred to Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond on 8 August, his arm noted as paralyzed. He returned to duty on 17 September 1863 and was wounded again, place not given, and admitted to a hospital in Danville, VA with a gunshot wound on 4 June 1864. He returned to his company on 7 June and was promoted to 2nd Corporal by October. He was paroled at Farmville, VA on 23 April 1865.
After the War
In 1870 and he was a farmer in Elmore County, AL, but by 1880 was farming at Athens in Henderson County, TX. In 1900, and to at least 1910 he was back in Elmore County, with a farm at Mitchell's Mill, AL. In 1920 he had retired and was living with his daughter Viola and her family in West Wetumpka, AL.
