An unmarried 19 year old farmer, he enlisted at Roanoke, AL on 22 February 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company I, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was "sent to hospital in Virginia, 1862, not heard from since, supposed to be dead."

His 60 or 62 year old Irish-born father James had enlisted in Company I in July 1861, giving his age as 48, but was discharged for disability in August 1862.
