Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 22 year old farmer, he enlisted at Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal in December 1861 and was elected Junior 2nd (3rd) Lieutenant on 7 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant by June 1863, was wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863, and was promoted to First Lieutenant to date from that battle. He was admitted to the Stuart Hospital in Richmond, VA on 2 April and was captured and paroled there on 21 April 1865.

After the War

In 1870 he was a farm worker at Morgan in Calhoun County, GA but by 1880 was farming his own place in Early County, GA. In 1900 he was a farmer at Colquitt, Miller County, GA.
