Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an unmarried 24 year old farmer at Chandler's Spring in Talladega County, AL. He enlisted at Roanoke, AL on 3 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company I of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863. He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware from 6 July 1863 to 14 June 1865, when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farmer in Clay County, AL. In 1880 he was farming at Rockford in Coosa County and by 1900 he had a farm at Harpersville in Shelby County, AL.
