Before Sharpsburg
A 20 year old farmer from Greenville, AL, he enlisted there on 3 July (or in Montgomery on 19 July) 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company G of the 13th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was appointed First Corporal on 1 December 1862 but reduced again to Private on 1 February 1863. He was appointed 4th Sergeant on 1 August 1863 and continued in action with his unit until he was wounded by a gunshot at Davis Farm near Petersburg, VA on 19 August 1864. He was furloughed home for 40 days from a Richmond, VA hospital on 6 September and returned to duty in October 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
