He enlisted on 19 July 1861 in Montgomery, AL and mustered as 3rd Corporal of Company I of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. He was "left on the field, supposed to be dead" with no further record.

The rest of the War

There are no Federal records of his capture or medical care, suggesting he died on the battlefield on or before 19 September 1862.
