Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old farmer living with his widowed mother Julia Ann, 7 siblings, and 12 slaves on the family plantation at Ridge, Colorado County, TX. He enlisted in Columbus, TX on 10 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 5th Texas Infantry. He was detailed to the Litter (stretcher) Corps on 15 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in Maryland and served as a stretcher bearer in action with them at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He served with his company to the end of the war and was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

By 1880 he was a farmer in Falls County, TX. In 1900 he was a landlord in Lott, Falls County, but by 1910, still in Lott, he was again farming.
