He was an unmarried 18 year old farmer at Nixburg, AL when he enlisted on 19 July 1861 in Montgomery, AL and he mustered as a Private in Company C of the 13th Alabama Infantry. He was wounded at Seven Pines, VA on 31 May 1862 and was in Chimborazo Hospital #1 in Richmond, VA from 22 May to 8 June.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was killed at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
