Before Sharpsburg
He was a 16 year old farmer from Tallassee, AL, and he gave his age as 19 when he enlisted on 19 July 1861 in Montgomery, AL and mustered as a Private in Company F of the 13th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was wounded at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and again, by a gunshot to his head in the Wilderness, VA on 5 May 1864. He was appointed 2nd Corporal to date from that battle. He was treated in a hospital in Danville, VA and furloughed on 18 June 1864 and was afterward away from his company on detail, place and duty not given.
After the War
In 1880 he was working in a cotton mill at Brownville in Lee County, AL but by 1900 was a carder in a cotton mill in Columbus, GA.
