An unmarried 19 year old farmer from Tallassee, AL, he enlisted on 19 July 1861 at Montgomery, AL and mustered as a Private in Company C of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was furloughed before the battle at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was with his company in all their battles from Chancellorsville, VA in May 1863 to the end of the war. He signed a parole at Montgomery, AL on 24 May 1865.
