Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an unmarried 18 year old student living with his parents and 7 siblings on their small farm at Pine Hill/Prairie Bluff, Wilcox County, AL. He enlisted on 6 July 1861 at Bridgeport, AL and mustered as a Private in Company A of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was mortally wounded by a gunshot at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the 3rd Alabama Hospital in Richmond, VA on 6 October and died there of wounds on 15 October 1862. His father Hampton filed for his final pay in August 1863.
