Before Sharpsburg

A married 32 year old farmer from Montgomery, AL, he enlisted on 19 July 1861 at Montgomery and mustered as a Private in Company B of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He continued in service with his unit to at least September 1864 and was captured in Richmond, VA on 3 April 1865. He was a prisoner in Libby Prison to 23 April then at Newport News, VA to 24 June, when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.
