Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 18 year old farmer, he enlisted on 26 July 1861 in Montgomery, AL and mustered as a Private in Company E of the 13th Alabama Infantry. He was appointed First Corporal about September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and received a flesh wound in the thigh in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in the left shoulder at Turkey Ridge near Richmond, VA, date not given. He was in Richmond, VA hospitals and on sick furlough from June into September 1864 and was captured and paroled at Macon, GA on 20 or 21 April 1865.
