Before Sharpsburg
A farmer's son, in 1860 he was a 19 year old living with his parents and 2 sisters on their modest place at Ramah in Montgomery County, AL. He enlisted in Montgomery on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company F of the 13th Alabama Infantry. He was appointed 4th Sergeant on 2 June 1862.
On the Campaign
He was with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
His father Lazarus filed a claim for his final pay of $140.92 in about February 1863, which was paid in November 1864.
