An unmarried 21 year old farmer in Wesabulga, Randolph County, AL, he enlisted on 19 July 1861 in Randolph County (or Montgomery), AL and mustered as a Private in Company D of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and was a prisoner at Fort Delaware from 7 or 10 July to 14 June 1865 when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.
