Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a married 30 year old farm worker living with miller A.B. Bugg and his family at Wetumpka, Autauga County, AL. He enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C of the 13th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was in action with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 (or 3) July 1863. He was sent to Fort Delaware on 7 July where he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and enlisted as a Corporal in Company G of the First Connecticut Cavalry on 5 October 1863.
He was transferred to the US Department of the Northwest to "fight Indians" on 27 April 1864, as were many of the other former Confederates in his company, was listed as absent without leave in August, and rejoined the First Connecticut Cavalry as a Private in Company D, on Christmas Day 1864. He mustered out with them on 2 August 1865.
After the War
In 1900 he was farming in Payne County, OK, but by 1910 he was he was a farmer at Willow Springs, Howell County, MO.
