Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an unmarried 15 year old farm hand living with his widowed mother and 8 siblings at Rockford, Coosa County, AL. He enlisted in Coosa County, AL on 8 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company H of the 13th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was seriously wounded by a gunshot to his right shoulder at Mine Run, VA on 27 November 1862, was admitted to Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond, VA on 30 November, and furloughed for 40 days on 2 January 1864. He was detailed as a nurse at Howard's Grove on 14 June 1864 with no later military record.
