A married 35 year old barber in Mobile, AL, he enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was a prisoner at Fort Delaware to 2 October when he was transferred to Aikens' Landing, VA; he was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was captured at Farmville, VA on 6 April 1865 and held at Point Lookout, MD until 6 June 1865 when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.
