Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 23 year old mechanic in Tuskegee, AL, he enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B of the 13th Alabama Infantry. He was appointed 2nd Corporal on 1 January 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 16 September 1862, but was listed as absent without leave on the 17th.

The rest of the War

He was wounded by a gunshot at Cold Harbor, VA on 6 July 1864 and retied to the Invalid Corps on 29 December 1864. He was at the post at Columbus, GA to at least February 1865. He signed a parole at Montgomery, AL on 18 May 1865.
