Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 24 year old merchant, he enlisted in Wilcox County, AL on 6 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company A of the 13th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted to Corporal by December 1861 and to 5th Sergeant on 7 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a Richmond, VA hospital to 10 October then furloughed home. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant on 1 December 1862 and was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 16 June 1863 and advanced to Senior 2nd Lieutenant shortly afterward. He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863, was held at Fort Delaware to 20 July, then was a prisoner at Johnson's Island near Sandusky, OH. He was transferred to Point Lookout, MD for exchange on 14 March 1865 with no later military record.
