Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a married 44 year old farmer living with his wife and 8 children on his small farm at Rockdale/Wedowee in Randolph County, AL. He enlisted at Loachapoka, AL on 14 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G of the 47th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was with his company at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December but afterward in hospitals in Richmond, VA where he died of pneumonia on 8 January 1863.

He married Esther Montgomery Bell (1819-1884) in January 1841 and they had 13 children.
