Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 28 year old farmer from Leon, AL, he enlisted on 5 July at Greenville in Butler County, AL and mustered at Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 as a Private in Company G of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was seriously wounded by a gunshot to his thing, the bone broken, at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and afterwards disabled for further field service. He was retired to the Invalid Corps on 14 May 1864 and posted to Greenville, AL by October 1864.
