Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a married 40 year old farmer with a small place at Rainsville in Butler County, AL. He enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company G of the 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the Camp Winder Hospital, Division 3, in Richmond, VA on 28 October with variola (smallpox) and died there on 19 November 1862.

His widow Penny filed a claim for his final pay of $175.20 in January 1864.
