Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an unmarried 20 year old farm hand living with his father, 8 siblings, and 8 slaves on their plantation at Buykeville/Rockford in Coosa County, AL. He enlisted in Wetumpka, AL on 15 July 1861 and mustered in Montgomery, AL on 19 July as 4th Corporal of Company C of the 13th Alabama Infantry. He was First Corporal by July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was captured at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was paroled at Keedysville, MD on 20 September 1862. He was promoted to 4th Sergeant about May 1863 and was killed at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863.
