Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 20 year old engineer from Montgomery, AL, he enlisted there on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was slightly wounded at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and again, more seriously, in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
