Before Sharpsburg
An unmarried 19 year old clerk in Montgomery, AL, he enlisted there on 19 July 1861 and mustered as 2nd Corporal of Company B, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was appointed 2nd Sergeant on 19 October 1861.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He continued with the company in action at Chancellorsville, VA and Gettysburg, PA. He transferred to Company C of the 35th Georgia Infantry on 1 December 1863. He was with them to at least July 1864, the latest record in his military file.
After the War
By 1870 he was a tinner (tinsmith) in Lowndesboro, Lowndes County, AL, but by 1880 was a Police Marshal in Birmingham, AL.
