Before Sharpsburg
An unmarried 24 year old bookkeeper, he enlisted in Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant on 16 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured at Staunton (or Fisher's Hill), VA on 27 September 1864 and sent to Point Lookout, MD by way of Harpers Ferry, WV on 10 October. He was exchanged on 10 February 1865, admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 16 February, and furloughed for 30 days on 8 March 1865. There is no later military record.
