Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an unmarried 21 year old farmer living with his parents and 3 siblings at Mt. Olive in Coosa County, AL. He enlisted in Coosa County on 29 June (or 2 July) 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 13th Alabama Infantry. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant on 1 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was on furlough home from 5 February to 7 March 1863. He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and was a prisoner at Fort Delaware from 6 July to 22 October 1863, then transferred to Point Lookout, MD. He was paroled there on 8 February 1865 and exchanged on 18 February with no later military record.
After the War
In 1880 he was a farmer in Chilton County, AL but by 1900 and to at least 1910 was farming in Garland County, AR.
